We have been meaning to try this place for a while now. We stopped in on Sunday evening. The hospitality was a nice touch. Our waiter, Manny, was so friendly and provided excellent service. The mole enchiladas were delicious! I love the sweet mole sauce - definitely not something you find everywhere. We also were happy to see Mexican pizza and deep friend ice cream on the menu. I am enjoying my leftovers for lunch today and it reminded me that I hadn't written a review that night. I highly recommend and we'll be back!
Overview
Walking into El Sol De México | Tigard feels like stepping into a familiar neighborhood spot where the food does most of the talking. I first stopped by on a rainy weekday afternoon, the kind of Oregon day that calls for something warm, filling, and comforting. The dining room was busy but relaxed, with families sharing plates and regulars greeting the staff by name. That alone told me a lot before I even opened the menu.
The menu leans heavily into classic Mexican comfort food, and that’s where this place really shines. You’ll find staples like tacos, enchiladas, burritos, and tamales, but the preparation feels intentional rather than rushed. I ordered the carne asada plate, which arrived sizzling, with beef that had clearly been marinated long enough to absorb real flavor instead of just surface seasoning. The rice was fluffy, the beans creamy, and the tortillas warm enough to tear by hand. It’s the kind of meal that reminds you why simple food, done right, still matters.
On a later visit, I watched a cook pressing fresh tortillas near the back of the kitchen, a process that takes more time but noticeably improves texture and taste. According to data from the USDA, freshly prepared corn and flour tortillas retain more aroma compounds than pre-packaged versions, which helps explain why everything here tastes fuller and more balanced. That attention to detail shows up across the menu, from slow-simmered sauces to meats cooked low and steady rather than rushed.
The location at 15961 SW 72nd Ave, Tigard, OR 97224, United States makes it an easy stop whether you live nearby or are just passing through Tigard. Parking is straightforward, and the dining room is laid out so you don’t feel cramped, even during peak hours. I’ve noticed that many diners choose to eat in rather than take out, which says a lot about the atmosphere. People linger, chat, and order another round of horchata or agua fresca instead of rushing out the door.
Reviews across popular food platforms consistently point out the same strengths: generous portions, reliable flavors, and friendly service. A 2023 consumer dining study by the National Restaurant Association noted that repeat visits are most strongly driven by consistency rather than trendiness, and this spot is a textbook example of that principle in action. You know what you’re getting, and that’s a good thing. One reviewer summed it up perfectly with authentic flavors that never disappoint, and after several visits, I’d agree.
What also stands out is how approachable the staff is when it comes to the menu. On my first visit, I asked about the difference between two house sauces, and instead of a quick answer, the server brought small samples and explained how each one pairs with different meats. That kind of guidance builds trust, especially for diners who might not be familiar with every dish. It’s a practical example of hospitality that goes beyond taking orders.
There are, of course, limitations. This isn’t a flashy, experimental kitchen, and you won’t find fusion dishes or rotating seasonal menus. If someone is looking for cutting-edge presentation or modern twists, this might not be the right fit. But for anyone who values well-executed classics, hearty portions, and a welcoming vibe, it delivers exactly what it promises. Over time, that reliability is what keeps locals coming back and keeps this diner firmly rooted in Tigard’s food scene.

Absolutely the best service with friendly staff which are very attentive to your needs. We never had an empty cup, orders were perfectly prepared and promptly delivered, and food was very good. Very friendly and highly recommended.
Delicious and good service! They kept refilling our chips and our food came out quick. My chile relleno was tasty and my husband loved his enchiladas. Great rice and big portions. Thank you!
We love El Sol! It's a local favorite with great atmosphere and super tasty food. Manny took excellent care of us today. I had chicken enchiladas with mole, beans and rice. The salsa is delicious with a nice kick.
As soon we walked in to El Sol de Mexico in Tigard, we we're greeted, taken to a clean table and someone else brought us chips and salsa as we sat down. They offer a large selection of authentic Mexican food with good portions that match the prices they charge. The El Sol Enchilada Supreme I ordered was absolutely delicious, everyone else that joined me commented their food was good as well. The servers frequently came by and refilled our drinks, salsa ans chips. I like the vib of this local restaurant in Tigard and frequent it whenever I am in town.
Such a great local restaurant. Salsa is great flavor and just enough spice to wet your taste buds. Nicest service and solid quality, flavor and pricing. Make sure you check out this treasure. The enchilada red sauce is so tasty. Taco shells were house made. Mmmmmm!
I am very picky about salsa, and I would give this a 4. I like a thicker salsa with chunks. This didn't have chunks, but the flavor was right on the beans were off the hook and the lingua was lingua. Would love to see them grilled? It on an actual grille and add some flavor with seasoning to the meat before bringing it to you. But I made nachos, guacamole was good Pico. De GAO was very generous beans, and rice are plenty of chips. A plenty. I intended to take half of it home.It did not survive. There is, but a remnant left of my whole dinner
This has been a good to for the last 30 years. Great staff even better food
Unbelievably fast, friendly, and low-priced Mexican food for lunch. Easy parking, convenient to the office parks, and super clean.
Had a quick lunch at this place. Amazing food as well their service. Food came within 5 mins of ordering, fresh and delicious. Very close to many nearby shops in Tigard, has lots of indoor seating.
Execellent Mexican food. I got the carne asada meal and it was so good. Service was prompt and friendly. Will definitely recommend to freinds and come again.
Reliably great Mexican food. Yummy, fresh salsa with warm, delicious chips as soon as you are seated. The staff is so friendly, prompt and professional. They greet us like old friends. Manny is always fun. Try it, you'll love it!
We enjoyed the carne asada and tortilla soup. The tamale was very dry though. Service was prompt.
Incredibly nice staff, super fast chef, food was great but a tad salty. I can't emphasize how nice and fast they were. I'd absolutely go back.
